urban interventions - 2010 Bat-Yam Biennale, Israel

urban interventions - 2010 Bat-Yam Biennale
Deadline : August 30th, 2009

The 2010 Bat-Yam Biennale is pleased to announce an open call for urban interventions.

Please find all the information at: opencall2010.biennale-batyam.org

The 2010 Bat-Yam Biennale invites projects that examine the city's "flexible" nature in relation to both infrastructures and resources, offering innovative uses for spaces that are under construction, transforming them into functional, temporal urban spaces.

The Bat-Yam Biennale functions as a laboratory through which attitudes in and towards urban space are examined. Urban Action 2010 continues the urban action begun in the first biennale , in which Hosting was the theme.

We invite anyone involved or interested in urbanism to propose interventions in the city of Bat-Yam. We are looking for innovative proposals that will lead to the development and improvement of urban life.

turn-berlin's large group shows
OPEN EXHIBITION

We are inviting contemporary artists to apply to join "Cluster Approving Association". Invited guests will exhibit with turn-berlin members. The turn-berlin gallery is large enough to host shows with each contributor having a minimum hanging space of 2 metres square.
Exhibitions will be publicised in Berlin and internationally.

The work will be included on the web site - turn-berlin.de

follow the link > shows > exhibition application form for details of how to apply.

Work must be submitted using the exhibition application form.

About
Our Gallery is based in Berlin-Mitte surrounded by the biggest concentration of art in Europe.
The turn-berlin exhibition space is dedicated to showing groups of painters, bringing new and experienced artists to public notice. Most of our members will exhibit once a year in Berlin. Over time we will start to take groups to exhibit in London and other European cities.
The web site is used to introduce members, enables people to discover artists new to them and follow their progress as they develop their vocation. Most of our artists already have an impressive background, some are new and emerging but most are just undiscovered. We are also finding more established artists wanting a different way of approaching the public.
This makes us a great place to collect art while prices are still in the realms of reality.

GRANDMOTHER WAITS FOR YOU - The Embassy Gallery, Edinburgh

GRANDMOTHER WAITS FOR YOU - The Embassy Gallery, Edinburgh
Deadline : 24 July, 2009

The Embassy Gallery would like to invite you to participate in a fast paced, experimental exhibition/event as part of this year’s Edinburgh Art Festival. The theme of this show is derived from a humorous and unlikely combination of local granny culture and global electronic networking.  It will be hosted inside the Embassy Tower at the Roxy Art House with the consent of the Pleasance Theatre who are taking over the building for the duration of the Fringe Festival. Obviously this means a great deal of exposure.

There are two options to the submission process.

Option 1
In the first instance we are looking for works which relate to the notion of granny-hood.  The theme can be handled in any way you wish, whether it be a critique of the stereotyping or condescending tendencies of popular media aimed at older generations ( from magazines such as My Weekly  and Readers Digest to TV portrayals of grannies as quaintly potty technophobes, for example) or simply drawn from your own experience of granny encounters. Ideally we would like to receive A4 work in a format than can be emailed and printed off by us in black and white. If you can manage to bring work to the gallery, however, we will accept original drawings, paintings, photos (of your gran perhaps) and may even be able to show video work or install sound pieces. The work will be placed on the walls of the stairwell leading to the top of the tower

Option 2
The second part of the exhibition will be a collaborative effort between artists and grandmothers. It will be located in the centre of the tower from floor to ceiling and will take the form of a knitted representation of the internet. The idea here is to create a haptic interface communicating the utopian cyber-dream of disparate networks fusing electronically to form a shared consciousness – otherwise known as the noosphere. http://www.noosphere.cc/

We will be looking for light objects (knitted or not) to be embedded within a woollen matrix. These may be works of art related to the subject matters described or simply things that you feel have an appropriate new age resonance strong enough to contribute to the flow of interconnecting energies.

Please bear in mind that the central construct will need to be non-flammable and may need to be treated!

Also let us know if you would like to come and help with the making of the piece especially if you knit or have a head for heights!

In both instances we would respectfully welcome work by actual bona fide grandmothers known to you personally.

How to Submit
Whatever the manner in which you would like to contribute the deadline for this one is very short so please act fast and loose.
You can send work via email to

embassygallery@hotmail.co.uk

or by post to

The Embassy Gallery, CO Roxy Art House, 2 Roxburgh Place, Edinburgh, EH8 9SU, UK.

If you would like to participate in the noosphere assemblage please email us or call Norman Hogg on 07950872479.

Deadline for all submissions is Friday 24/07/09

AC Institute [Direct Chapel] , New York- 2009/2010 Call for Participation/Call for Artists

AC Institute [Direct Chapel] - 2009/2010 Call for Participation/Call for Artists
REALIT(Y/IES)

Deadlines:
To be considered for Fall and Spring Calendar: August 1, 2009
To be considered for Spring Calendar: November 1, 2009

REALIT(Y/IES) Call:
This means that the dialectic of semblance and Real cannot be reduced to the rather elementary fact that the virtualization of our daily lives, the experience that we are living more and more in an artificially constructed universe, gives rise to an irresistible urge to 'return to the Real', to regain firm ground in some 'real reality'.
―Slavoj Žižek, Welcome to the Desert of the Real!, 2002

In 2008 we wondered: the relationship between real estate prices and actual money, if the crowds at the Armory were smaller than the year before, the various costs of a fossil fuel driven culture, if our gallery could exist without being on Facebook and if we even needed to leave our homes (or computers for that matter).

The AC Institute seeks works to exhibit for its upcoming 2009/2010 season. Our call is not meant as a 'return to the Real' rather, like Žižek, we continue in an exploration of 'reality'―the things, the conditions, the concepts, the perceptions, the implications and the relationships and/or dialogues between them. Our focus is on the ephemeral (site-specific works, installation, sound video, etc) though any media/medium will be considered so long as they suit our various gallery spaces.

With your submissions, please include the following in an email (no attachments please):
-A short description and/or images of the work you are proposing for our spaces
-Your standard CV and contact information
-Links to your website or other sites where materials could be viewed, if possible

About AC Institute [Direct Chapel]:
AC's mission is to advance the understanding of art through investigation, research and education. It is a lab and forum for experimentation and critical discussion. We support and develop projects that explore a performative exchange across visual, verbal and experiential disciplines and encourage critical writing that challenges conventional expectations of meaning and objectivity as well as the boundaries between the rational and subjective. Art Currents is a non-profit 501(c)3 and is under the Direction of Holly Crawford.

September 2008 marks the date in which the AC Institute took on a physical location, the AC [Direct] I and II spaces and the AC [Chapel] space in Chelsea. In its inaugural season the AC has: had 10 openings, one per month, which represents 25 individual shows (approximately 2-4 solo shows per exhibition); offered 5 live performance special events; participated in the 2009 Armory show with 2 VIP projects; collaborated with over 50 artists; and worked with various cultural organizations towards promoting art-based projects, such as Rhizome, Harvestworks and Materials for the Arts. Press for the inaugural year include those in ArtCal/ArtCat, Chelsea Now, NY ArtBeat and various other online reviews. We provide our spaces(550 square foot video space complete with benched seating), regular press/programming support, some A/V equipment (5.1 sound system, single channel video projector, etc.) and upload to various online archives/announcements, including but not limited to: Artslant.com, Artipedia.org and Artfacts.net.
