CALL FOR PROPOSALS BY LABoral FOR THE PRODUCTION OF AN ART WORK TO BE EXHIBITED IN ITS GALLERY PLATFORM 1
Deadline : May 15th 2009

DIGITAL_LAB will be awarded with a prize of 20,000 Euros for the production of an art work that must have both installation and virtual characteristics.

LABoral Centro has issued a call for proposals for DIGITAL_LAB, a competition open to all artists interested in producing a work of art that combines aspects of an installation with virtual characteristics, the latter to be linked to LABoral’s web page. The curator is the art critic and new technology expert, Roberta Bosco. The art work, to be given a production budget of 20,000 Euros, will exhibit its installation dimension in LABoral’s Gallery Platform 1 from September 25th, 2009, to January 11, 2010. Project proposals will be accepted starting this Monday, February 23rd, until the 15th of May.

DIGITAL_LAB is organised by LABoral’s Projects Office, a space always at the disposition of the cultural sector, which was started to assist in the production of artistic projects and their introduction to professional circuits.

The topic to be treated by projects submitted to DIGITAL_LAB is open to the discretion of the artist, as are the technological media used in building it. Reflection upon the following subjects, however, will be valued most highly: the challenges facing our communication society, the digital divide and discrimination generated by new computer and communication technologies, new communities located between the physical and the virtual, the management and advantageous use of digital participation tools. At the same time, art whose use of new technologies and computer systems inspires new functionalities and conceptual, aesthetic and formal innovations will also be evaluated most highly.

In accordance with the Terms and Conditions of the competition, proposals may be submitted by any artist or collective, regardless of their age or nationality. The winning project will be chosen by a jury, whose final decision is incontestable, will be made public on June 1st, 2009, on the competition’s web page and by email to the winning artist.

Artists' Proposals for 2010 Season - Eastern State Penitentiary Art Installation, Philadelphia, PA
Deadline : June 16, 2009, 5:00 pm

Eastern State Penitentiary Historic Site seeks proposals for its 2010 tour season and beyond.  There are two funding categories : Exhibition Approval providing a budget of up to $7,500 and approval to exhibit at the historic site; and Exhibition Development, providing up to $2,500 with no guarantee of exhibition.

Full details on the site's web site at
http://www.easternstate.org/exhibits/guidelines.php

Eastern State Penitentiary Historic Site was once the most famous and expensive prison in the world, but stands today in ruin, a haunting world of crumbling cellblocks and empty guard towers. Known for it's grand architecture and strict discipline, this was the world's first true "penitentiary," a prison designed to inspire penitence, or true regret, in the hearts of convicts. Its vaulted, sky-lit cells once held many of America's most notorious criminals, including bank robber Willie Sutton and Al Capone.  Tours today include the cellblocks, solitary punishment cells, Al Capone's Cell, and Death Row. A critically-acclaimed series of artists installations is free with admission.
