Touring Exhibitions Organiser, Southbank Centre, London
Deadline : Friday, November 21, 2008
Full Time, £30,000 per annum
Southbank Centre is the UK’s largest arts centre, occupying a 21-acre site that sits in the midst of London¹s most vibrant cultural quarter on the South Bank of the Thames. The site has an extraordinary creative and architectural history stretching back to the 1951 Festival of Britain. Southbank Centre is home to the Royal Festival Hall, Queen Elizabeth Hall, Purcell Room and The Hayward as well as The Saison Poetry Library and the Arts Council Collection. The Royal Festival Hall reopened in June 2007 following the major refurbishment of the Hall and redevelopment of the surrounding area and facilities.
The Hayward is the hub of visual arts activity at Southbank Centre and plays a vital role in the UK and internationally by presenting a wide range of ground-breaking art exhibitions, both at the gallery and through its nationwide touring programme. Each year The Hayward Touring exhibitions are seen by approximately half a million people in almost 100 venues throughout Britain.
As a key member of The Hayward Touring team, you will collaborate with external curators, galleries and museums across the UK on an ambitious and wide-ranging programme of contemporary art exhibitions. Your role will encompass all aspects of exhibition organising, from initial research and development to detailed planning and installation. You will also take the lead on overseeing budgets, general planning and setting up processes for the Touring team.
With proven experience in organising exhibitions (preferably touring), you will have a strong track record in managing budgets, negotiating loan agreements and planning and administration. Outstanding interpersonal skills and experience of building and developing relationships with partners and stakeholders are essential. Experience of working in UK galleries outside London is also desirable.
